Although it does not deny that finishing in 8th position is not a good result, Pol Espargaro is quite happy with the results of his debut race with the Repsol Honda Team.
Pol Espargaro has indeed impressed many parties, because since the pre-season he seems to have adapted well to the RC213V, which is usually tame when ridden by Marc Marquez.
Because of his pre-season performance, many predicted that Pol Espargaro would shine in the first series at the Losail Qatar Circuit. But the reality is not.
The moto2 world champion even started the race in 12th position, but over time, Pol Espargaro began to dare to make a breakthrough, overtaking several riders including Valentino Rossi, Jorge Martin, Migue Oliveira to Jack Miller.
“I was able to improve my position and overtake a lot of riders throughout the race. I was 12 on the second lap, and I finished eighth. So I had to overtake a lot of riders almost every lap,” said Pol Espargaro.
Furthermore, Pol Espargaro talked about the moment where he almost fumigated his older brother, Aleix Espargaro, but unfortunately at that time there was a problem with his tires.
“When I approached Aleix, I also tried to overtake. However, my tire was damaged. The problem is, I can usually get close under braking, but my front tire is bad.”
“I tried to pass him on a straight track. If there is another half lap or a longer straight track, I can do it. But I was late and I was 0.05 seconds behind (from Aleix), “he said.
8th place is not a good result, Pol Espargaro himself is annoyed with the result, but on the one hand he is also happy because the position is not bad for the debut rider at Repsol Honda.
“This result is good, super interesting. Even though I performed very badly at the start of the race, we still managed to finish 5.9 seconds from the winner. So, I am angry with this result because I can only finish eighth, this is not fun, also a few points.”
“However, if you look at the big picture, these results are amazing. So, in the next race I will be more political, “said Espargaro.
