Barcelona did manage to win a narrow 2-1 victory over Dynamo Kiev in the duel in the European Champions League Group phase. But the real story is, the Catalan giants barely pocketed one point from the fight.
In the Group G standings, Barcelona is indeed at the top with 6 points after winning in the first two matches. Meanwhile, on the third matchdays, they faced relatively easy opponents, Dynamo Kiev.
The duel itself took place on Thursday morning WIB (05/11) at Estadio Camp Nou.
As a leading team playing at home, of course Ronald Koeman’s troops should have no trouble picking up three points. But the reality is not.
Barcelona continued to come under intense pressure from Dynamo Kiev throughout the match. In fact, their goal could have conceded a lot of goals had goalkeeper Ter Stegen not shining through with 6 crucial saves.
In the end, Barcelona did manage to win through a narrow score of 2-1. But it should be noted, in the last 15 minutes of the match, Dynamo Kiev continued to attack the Catalan giant defense and several times almost equalized.
Speaking after the match, defender Gerard Pique could not deny that the Ukrainian club was so troublesome for Barcelona. In fact, according to him, the Catalan team won luck.
“The first half went very well. Then the game got out of our hands, we got out of control and we were nervous. They made us difficult, the most important is these three points.” said Pique quoted from Sport.
Even so, Pique is not necessarily very disappointed with his team’s performance at the start of this season. According to him, the unstable performance is normal during the transition period.
“Our club is in the process of major changes. I think that change is necessary, because our performance is not stable. Every year we are a little worse than before.”
“We know this year will not be easy, but we will try to compete in every game.” continued Pique.
However, with recent results, Shakira’s husband admits that Barcelona are not the favorites to win the Champions League.
“Naturally we are not favorites in the Champions League after what happened the last few years,” continued Pique.
