Barcelona President confirms Quique Setien’s dismissal

The Spanish La Liga giants, Barcelona, have reportedly confirmed the news of Quique Setien’s dismissal from the manager’s chair through the Club President, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Barcelona itself was eliminated sadly from the European Champions League this season. Facing Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals last weekend, Messi et al were defeated with a landslide score of 2-8.

Even this disaster seemed to complement Barcelona’s suffering this season which was confirmed without a title.

As is known, before this Barcelona had failed to win the Copa del Rey and La Liga. On the La Liga stage itself, Barca, who before the lockdown, topped the standings, but they were slowly being eliminated by their rivals, Real Madrid.

When things don’t turn out as expected, of course the coach is the first to take responsibility.

In fact, Barcelona had fired their coach, Ernesto Valverde in the middle of the season, following a series of negative results. Including the failure in the Spanish Super Cup.

Then Quique Setien came to become the new manager for Messi cs. Unfortunately, the 61-year-old coach seems unable to give maximum results.

Now, reports are circulating that Bartomeu has confirmed Setien’s dismissal to local media Cadena COPE. The official announcement will be in a few hours.

Bartomeu spoke after holding an impromptu meeting at the Barcelona office with club officials, starting from Eric Abidal, Ramon Planes, Óscar Grau, Jordi Mos, and Javier Bordas.

In the meeting, there were several matters discussed by club officials, including the candidate to replace Setien.

Several names surfaced, from Ronald Koeman Garcia Pimienta to club legend Xavi. Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is believed not to be on the list of candidates.

The former Tottenham Hotspur coach is indeed quite accomplished, especially since he is currently unemployed. However, Barcelona was already disappointed with Pochettino’s statement when he was still handling Espanyol first.

There was news that Barcelona approached Arsene Wenger some time ago. However, the French coach refused the offer.

Of course it is interesting to look forward to the new coach who will handle Messi and his friends next season.
