One of the former Barcelona presidents, Joan Laporta, told how there was an attempt by Inter Milan to recruit their superstar Lionel Messi. In fact, the offer made by the Nerazzurri at the time was quite tempting.
Previously, it should be noted that Joan Laporta has served as President of Barcelona for approximately 7 years, from 2003 to 2010.
Now, the person concerned plans to return to his position following Josep Maria Bartomeu’s decision to resign from the presidency some time ago.
In the competition now, Joan Laporta will face two other candidates, including Victor Font and Toni Freixa.
Compared to the other two candidates, of course Joan Laporta is the only one with experience leading Barcelona. In fact, during that period there were some interesting stories that not many people know.
Including one of them when he was seduced by Inter Milan so that the club let go of their mega star, Lionel Messi. Even then the offer was very tempting.
Inter Milan admits that they are ready to spend up to 250 million Euros or the equivalent of 4.2 trillion Rupiah to get Messi’s services.
“Nobody who loves Barcelona can doubt Messi. I wish I could be appointed president and then I will talk to him, ”
“We rejected the 250 million euro offer that came from Inter in 2006. [Massimo] Moratti wanted to take him to his club,” he told Onda Cero.
Furthermore, Joan Laporta then made some promises if he was elected as the new President of Barcelona. Including one of his promises is to restore Barcelona’s financial condition which has been weakening recently.
“We have plans to restore the club’s dramatic economic situation,”
“We can improve the world but we can make it a better place and we want to do it with hard work, passion and love.”
What is clear, Joan Laporta must think about Lionel Messi, who is likely to leave the club at the end of his contract in 2021.
Meanwhile, currently Barcelona is ranked 7th in the Spanish La Liga standings.
