Atletico Madrid failed to step into the semifinals of the European Champions League after being knocked out by Germany’s representatives, RB Leipzig. Koke admitted that he has accepted the failure.
In the quarter-finals, the Spanish representative faced RB Leipzig. The duel itself took place on Friday morning WIB (14/08).
The match was tight, not even a single goal was scored until the first half ended. RB Leipzig succeeded in opening the scoring first with a goal from Dani Olmo in the 50th minute.
In the middle of the second half, Diego Simeone’s men managed to get back from behind thanks to a goal from Joao Felix. But 10 minutes before the game ended, Germany’s representatives were back ahead thanks to a goal from Tyler Adams.
A score of 2-1 in the end lasted until the match was over, where these results knocked out the Spanish representatives.
Of course, this failure was very disappointing, especially when talking on paper, the two teams were equally strong. However, Atletico Madrid captain Koke acknowledged that Leipzig played better and deserved to win.
Even though they had struggled from the first minute, Atletico Madrid thought it was difficult to keep up with the German representative’s game.
“They are better, they don’t let us match the intensity of their play. On several occasions they have been better, they have dominated possession more. They are better, faster and more intense.”
“When your opponent is better you try to give your all, and if in the end, you fail you have to congratulate your opponent,” Koke told Movistar via Goal international.
However, Koke believes there is still a chance for Atletico Madrid to try again next season. His team will learn from previous failures, including the one against Leipzig yesterday.
“On the pitch, there are times when you are better and the opponent is worse. When it is calm, we will analyze the game, we will see where we failed and what was lacking.”
“We will try again next season. When you lose, you must feel sick and sad. It is a different competition, in one game, and with three games you can win the Champions League.” He said.
