Speculation about the future of Olivier Giroud officially ended by Chelsea, the Premier League club gave a new contract to the former Arsenal player.
The rest of the contract that ties Giroud at Chelsea is only until next summer. As a result, the 33-year-old striker was linked with several European clubs, one of them Inter Milan.
In his remaining contract at Chelsea, the club has the option to extend it to one more year. But this situation is not just about the contract, Giroud needs more minutes to play, and he did not get it at Chelsea.
But, speculation about the future puzzle Giroud ended by Chelsea. Whether guaranteed to play more minutes or not, the Frenchman agreed to stay for the next season at Stamford Bridge.
Giroud said he was happy with this contract and said he couldn’t wait to play again for the Blues.
“I am happy to be able to continue my journey and adventure at Chelsea. I can’t wait to get back to playing and enjoying competitive soccer matches with my team-mates,”
“I can’t wait to wear the Chelsea uniform again, especially in front of our fans at the full Stamford Bridge stadium, whenever it’s safe to do,” Giroud said on the club’s official website.
In addition to Giroud, Chelsea also gave a new contract to their veteran goalkeeper, Willy Caballero, who is often relied on later than Kepa Arrizabalaga.
“I am very happy to make this announcement. It’s a privilege to be part of this Chelsea squad and the Chelsea family, in one of the most historic clubs in the Premier League,” said the former Manchester man.
At present, Olivier Giroud and Willy Caballero have returned to training in small groups to prepare themselves for the rest of the season.
This relates to local government permission for Premier League clubs to hold more training sessions.
The contract extension of the two players might make Chelsea fans relieved, but there is still one more name that has not yet reached a contractual agreement. None other than the figure is a Brazilian winger, Willian.
