Chiellini returns back, this is Juventus’ squad for the knockout phase

Juventus have confirmed tickets to the knockout stages of the European Champions League this season. As the competition approached, Bianconneri then appointed 22 players who were included in Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

Of the 22 names, one of those on the list is a senior defender, Giorgio Chiellini. For information, the Italian national team has missed the Bianconeri I defense since August 30, 2019. Chiellini suffered an ACL injury while diving training session.

The injury can be said to be quite severe, to the extent that the player must undergo surgery in Austria. The operation process went smoothly, it’s just that the recovery period is quite long. In fact, initially Chiellini was predicted to be able to recover in March 2020.

His condition continues to improve, so it is not surprising if his name is included in the list of squads who will play in the knockout round of the European Champions League. He replaced Merih Demiral who had to be sidelined until the end of the season due to an ACL injury.

Nevertheless, it is unlikely Chiellini could appear in the first leg of the last 16 round of the European Champions League this month, where Juve will face Olympique Lyon. The party will take place at the Groupama Stadium, 26 February.

Chiellini is predicted to be able to return and strengthen Juventus in the second meeting against the French representative, 17 March. Aside from Chiellini, Juventus continued to include the name of Matthijs De Ligt, the new signing who has replaced Chiellini at the heart of the defense since the beginning of this season.

De Ligt’s position in the main squad was briefly replaced by Merih Demiral, unfortunately the Turkish player was again excluded due to injury. Being on the front lines, coach Mauruzio Sarri called all who became his mainstay this season including Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala.
