Croatia defender Dejan Lovren was apparently very upset when he saw how Sergio Ramos injured his team-mate Mohamed Salah in the European Champions League final two years ago.
At that time, Salah had only played a few minutes, then an incident occurred which forced him to end the match early.
Salah was involved in the ‘Guling-Gulingan’ incident with Real Madrid defender, Sergio Ramos. Some parties suspect that Ramos deliberately did this so that Salah, who is Liverpool’s mainstay on the front lines, could not continue the match.
Sure enough, at that time Real Madrid won 3-1 over Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s troops seemed to have difficulty catching up to position because they still depended on Mo Salah who was his main goal scorer at the time.
Interestingly, Dejan Lovren then took advantage of the meeting of the Croatian national team against the Spanish national team in the UEFA Nations League to avenge Ramos’s actions.
On one occasion, the defender elbowed the Spanish captain until he finally couldn’t continue the match. He also admitted that he did the elbow on purpose.
“I elbowed him well. Haha! 3-2! Please speak now friends. Friends!” Lovren wrote in an upload on Instagram social media.
So, is it an act of revenge for Ramos’s actions against Salah?
“I deliberately elbowed Ramos after hurting Salah? Yes, it might happen,” he said.
However, Dejan Lovren, who is now defending Russian club Zenit St Petersburg, emphasized that he still respects Ramos. It’s just that the player’s attitude on the field tends to hurt other players.
“I respect Ramos as a player and what he did for his team. He won a lot of titles, but on the other hand, he did things that didn’t like and hurt players.”
“I don’t want to exaggerate the problem, but I think Ramos intends to injure my friend, so it’s time to pay for what he has done,” concluded Lovren.
Liverpool itself stepped back into the finals the following season, but this time they managed to win after beating Tottenham with a score of 2-0.
