Young England national team defender Ben Chilwell finally officially joined Chelsea. The player revealed that Frank Lampard’s presence was the reason behind his willingness to join Stamford Bridge.
According to official information, Chelsea spent 50 million Euros to recruit the 23-year-old player from Leicester City. Chilwell has also agreed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Coach Frank Lampard is believed to have long wanted Ben Chilwell’s presence in his squad. Before finally officially joining Chelsea, the player held intense talks with the London club legend.
Then, Chilwell told how Frank Lampard convinced himself to be willing to join Chelsea. The player admits that the tactician’s “seduction” made him unable to refuse the offer.
“Lampard is very important. Of course I want to play for a big club, that’s what all players want throughout his career, but talking to Frank before I came was one of the main reasons I wanted to come here,”
“He gave me a lot of confidence, told me how the system fits my style of play and he seems like a very good person to talk to other than football. I think that is very important for young players, to have a manager with whom to chat,” Chilwell said on Chelsea’s official website.
Lampard himself just started working in the Chelsea seat since last summer. He is trusted to replace Maurizio Sarri, despite the fact that he still lacks of experience.
That doesn’t make Chilwell doubt, however, as the fact that Lampard is a former player makes chances for the club’s young players to make regular appearances even greater.
“When you play under a manager who is also a former player, I think that’s very important. He is a great player not only for Chelsea, but also for England,”
“Hopefully I can help my career for a long time and hopefully he can give me a lot of advice, I hope to have a career as good as him,” he said.
