Buffon has 17 years to defend as the defending champions of Italian Serie A, Juventus and for reasons that may be unacceptable, he has chosen to leave France’s Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain by rejecting the offer of a new contract from the Bianconneri. Some consider that the rejection was for financial reasons only, but the 40-year-old player then issued his rebuttal.
Gianluigi Buffon, 40, is indeed a living legend of Juventus who has defended the defending Italian Serie A champion since 2001, when he was recruited from one of the rival clubs, Parma. For the past 17 years, Buffon has always been the Bianconner’s mainstay under the crossbar, winning a number of prestigious titles including 10 Scudetto titles, and three steps to the European Champions League final.
At the end of the 2017/18 season yesterday, Buffon’s contract at Juventus did end, the club sent a new contract but the legend refused the contract, there were two speculations at the time, Buffon would hang shoes from the world of football, and one speculation in question remained playing but together another club, with Paris Saint-Germain where this transfer ultimately disappointed Juventus fans.
Not surprisingly, many consider that Buffon’s decision to join Les Parisiens was due to financial factors. However, Buffon who only became the second option along with Les Parisiens later denied the claim.
“There is always envy, it’s human. The first thing is not affected by the judgment of others. I will never prostitute my dreams and dreams for money. If I want to do that, then I have done it for a long time.
“Money is important – to live better, but I’m not superficial. They [critics] think I’m crazy. But my enthusiasm makes me younger, and if I want to continue playing I can’t be like an old man. Receiving offers from clubs like this brings satisfaction. I always give my best – I’m sure I have behaved well and live to reward me with this bonus, “Buffon told Corriere della Sera.
