FIFA has announced the winners of all FIFA Best 2020 categories, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp won the World Best Men’s Coach category. The public was actually surprised by this result, as was Klopp himself.
Meanwhile, the German manager has entered the top three candidates for this category along with two other strong competitors, namely Hansi Flick and Marcelo Bielsa.
At first, Hansi Flick was more favored to win, because last season he was able to bring Bayern Munich to his feet and win the treble winner.
Meanwhile, Marcelo Bielsa himself is considered special because he is able to lead Leeds United to penetrate the Premier League again.
However, the great achievements of the two managers are considered to be still inferior to Jurgen Klopp’s achievements who led Liverpool to become Premier League champions for the first time in 30 years.
This achievement was considered to be extraordinary, so that the German man won the title of Best FIFA Coach for the second time, after winning it also in 2019 yesterday.
Klopp himself admitted that he was surprised when he received the award.
“I’m in shock. I’m sitting here because I thought I won it last year. I’m here with the players. Thank you so much, wow,”
“I thank many people and most of them are my coaches. If I knew that I would win it, my coaches would be here,” said Klopp.
Please note, Liverpool did indeed last won the Premier League title in 1990, at which time the format used was still the old format.
Unfortunately, the long wait of 30 years cannot be celebrated with fans because of the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic. However, Klopp remains proud of this achievement.
“We have not dreamed of this for 30 years, but in the last few years. It was simply incredible,”
“We all had a special year in a way that was not so positive, but for Liverpool fans at least we can make some highlights in complicated times. I don’t know how it feels, but it’s really amazing,” he concluded.
