Leipzig’s dilemma: Timo Werner refused to extend the contract

Good news came on the Liverpool side which claimed to be very interested in getting Timo Werner‘s services. The good news is the news that came when the player refused to extend a new contract with the German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig.

Timo Werner has actually been included in Liverpool’s transfer book since January 2019 ago, in the transfer market half-season. However, there is no serious certainty from the Liverpool side who really want to hijack Timo Werner out of the Bundesliga.

The upcoming 2019-2020 season is the season where Liverpool is ready to do ‘big shopping’, and one thing that might happen is to get Timo Werner’s signature. RB Leipzig’s Chief Executive Officer [CEO], Oliver Mintzlaff, has said that they are negotiating a new contract with Timo Werner.

“The extension of the contract with Timo Werner is our step, but he has signaled to us that he is more than happy to not extend it here,” Oliver Mintzlaff said through German media.

Oliver Mintzlaff added if Timo Werner explained two reasons not to extend his contract with RB Leipzig. The German national team striker wants an increase in achievements with a bigger club.

The second reason is because of the finances, when he left Leipzig, it was possible that Timo Werner’s salary would be greater. Actually the club’s offer is already large, but in outside, there are many clubs that are ready to provide him bigger salaries. And those two reasons are understandable by Oliver Mintzlaff.

“Timo Werner will last up to one to two seasons ahead because of the value of the contract and hopefully he will continue to survive. But, in the end this will all come back to him, “concluded Oliver Mintzlaff.

Timo Werner came to play with Lipzig in 2016 from Stuttgart. Entering as a debutant player, Timo Werner did not need much time to always be a starter. So far, he has scored 60 goals from 108 appearances in the Bundesliga, and his contract will expire on June 30, 2020.
