Former Manchester United player Robin Van Persie considers Liverpool’s victory over Ajax Amsterdam in the European Champions League this morning colored by luck.
As is known, Jurgen Klopp’s troops visited Ajax headquarters to play the first week of the European Champions League group phase, early morning WIB (22/10).
In this match, the Reds did not field their best squad, considering that there were some players who were still in a less fit condition such as Van Dijk and Thiago Alcantara.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s men still managed to win full points thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory. The only goal was created by Nicolas Tagliafico’s own action after miscalculating Sadio Mane’s shot.
Even without the two key players, the Reds came home with three points after winning 1-0. Liverpool’s goal came after Sadio Mane’s kick was mis-anticipated by Nicolas Tagliafico and found his team’s goal.
Even though it ended in Liverpool’s victory, the Ajax hosts provided fierce resistance. In fact, Liverpool’s defense was quite inconvenient to block the host’s attack.
No wonder, after the match, Manchester United legend Robin Van Persie thought that Liverpool’s victory in this match was actually colored by luck.
“Ajax had a bigger chance tonight. They played pretty well, they had four or five real chances, and usually they’ll get one of them.”
“Tonight it didn’t [get a goal]. So I think Liverpool were just lucky tonight. Ajax played well, but didn’t score,” Robin van Persie told BT Sport.
However, this figure who has also defended Arsenal still praises Liverpool’s game. Especially for Sadio Mane who according to him appeared fantastic and entertaining before being pulled out in the 60th minute.
“For me, the first hour, it was great watching Sadio Mane. The movements, the way he holds the ball, the connected play. I will pay to see him! Sadio Mane is a fantastic player to watch,” stressed Robin van Persie.
Liverpool itself must immediately focus on tomorrow’s weekend match in the Premier League continued against Sheffield United.
