One of Manchester United’s senior left-backs, Luke Shaw admits that he has been through difficult times at Old Trafford, even though this does not necessarily make him think about leaving the Red Devils.
As is known, Luke Shaw himself joined Manchester United after being recruited from Southampton in the summer of 2014.
However, his career at Old Trafford which was seven years old did not necessarily go smoothly. Shaw has experienced a series of severe injuries and he was even considered to appear below standard, especially during the Jose Mourinho era.
As a result, the 25-year-old defender is often the target of criticism, even criticism openly by manager Jose Mourinho.
Even so, this situation did not necessarily make Shaw give up, slowly but surely he managed to return to his feet in terms of performance in the Solskjaer coaching era, and returned to be one of the mainstays at the back.
Shaw then reminisced about that difficult period, where he insisted that he had no intention of leaving United at all, his determination was to get up and fight for his position again in the main squad.
“It was a really difficult time a few years ago when I didn’t play, when I wasn’t even involved,”
“I always believe in myself. There are times when maybe people think ‘maybe he can go’, but I always believed that one day I will be able to fight back into the team and show people what my qualities are, “Shaw told BBC Sport.
As for Jose Mourinho’s open criticism, Shaw felt that at that time he could not do much to defend himself.
“It was difficult because I couldn’t convey my words. A lot of people are behind me here, so I know I have that support, but I just need to keep my head down and stay still, ”
“People say negative things about me but I just see it as a learning curve and something that has improved me personally off the pitch, not just inside,” he continued.
