The disaster of Real Madrid was felt complete after the massacre at Camp Nou last weekend which then led to the sacking of coach, Julen Lopetegui from the manager’s position. Responding to the dismissal, the former coach of the Spanish National Team should have been disappointed, because not even 4 months had been appointed as Real Madrid coach, but instead he was grateful for the rare opportunity.
Julen Lopetegui was indeed appointed by Real Madrid to be a successor to Zinedine Zidane, who has officially left the manager position at the end of the 2017/18 season. Lopetegui himself did not think long, even though at that time he was still the coach of the Spanish National Team, even this appointment was only 3 days before the 2018 World Cup was held. Finally, the Spanish Football Federation took decisive steps by firing Lopetegui, because accepting Real Madrid’s proposal was only a few days away from the 2018 World Cup.
Initially, many parties considered that Lopetegui would be a successor to Zidane, following his performance as coach of Spain throughout the 2018 world cup qualifying yesterday. But the reality is different, Real Madrid recorded the worst start since the last 17 years under the direction of Lopetegui. Five matches were passed without a win, with details of four defeats and one draw. In fact, they only packed one goal from the five parties, becoming the worst record in the history of the club.
The climax, the massacre at Camp Nou, when Sergio Ramos cs played the first El Clasico this season against the main rival, Barcelona. In the match which took place last week (28/10), Real Madrid were helpless with a landslide defeat of 1-5 of the hosts Barcelona. After a few hours later, Lopetegui was officially fired from the manager’s seat, after less than 4 months of work.
Instead of being disappointed, Lopetegui actually thanked Real Madrid for the opportunity given over the past three months.
“I want to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me. Thank you to the players for their efforts and hard work, and also for every employee at the club for their service so far. And of course, I also want to thank the fans for their support. I wish them all the best in the rest of the season,” told Lopetegui to EFE.
