AC Milan legend and sporting director Paolo Maldini advised the club to immediately reach a new contract agreement with their goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
As is known, Donnarumma has indeed recorded a good performance since his debut at the age of 16 with the Rossoneri. He even broke into Milan’s first team since he was 17 years old and has been the mainstay of the game until now.
It’s just that, with the fact that the player is still very young (21 years) and has enough talent and experience, not a few European giants have tried to grab Donnarumma’s services several times from AC Milan.
Several years ago, Donnarumma even had time to almost leave the San Siro but in the end agreed a new contract. But now, the same situation is repeating itself following the fact that the player’s contract has only one year left at AC Milan.
Speculation of Donnarumma’s future is running wild along with the fact that so far there have been no signs that the 21-year-old will continue his tenure at the San Siro.
Talking about the player, the legend and AC Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini called Donnarumma a figure of a leader and a great player.
“Donnarumma is 21 and an absolute leader. That is the reality. He has played 220 games with Milan at his age, that’s absolutely incredible.”
“The more he progresses, the more he becomes a leader. He is a leader in training sessions and with his behavior. “The growth is truly exponential,” Maldini told Sky Sport Italia.
Furthermore, Maldini admitted that AC Milan was not in a hurry to extend Donnarumma’s contract. However, the club must not relax too much because anything can happen in football.
“We have to try. It could be a week, 10 days, 20 days, we’re not in a hurry. We’re in this situation right now, we know. So 10 or 15 more days won’t change anything, “he said.
Since his debut until now, Donnarumma has so far made no less than 205 appearances for AC Milan and has recorded 75 clean sheets in between.
