After officially ending his career at Chelsea, Pedro Rodriguez finally decided to move to Italy. He officially joined the Serie A giants, AS Roma.
This official news was announced directly by AS Roma on Tuesday night WIB (25/08). In its official statement, AS Roma agreed to bind the attacker with a contract that lasts three years.
For information, AS Roma itself did not spend at all to recruit Pedro to the Olimpico. This is due to the player’s status on a free transfer after his contract with Chelsea ended some time ago.
Along with the announcement, the former Barcelona player then thanked the fans who gave him a warm welcome. Not to forget he also expressed his feelings of pleasure over this agreement.
“I am delighted to be at Rome. I can not wait to face this challenge and compete to achieve our targets in the coming season,”
“I want to thank the fans for the welcome. I hope to make them happy,” Pedro said as quoted by AS Roma’s official website.
Prior to joining AS Roma, Pedro Rodriguez spent five years with Chelsea. He joined the Premier League club after being redeemed from Barcelona for 19 million Euros.
The player who comes from Spain actually had become a mainstay of Chelsea, but since the arrival of new coach Frank Lampard, he has played very little. Noted, this season he only collected 23 appearances in all competitions with The Blues.
Meanwhile, in total during his five years at Chelsea, Pedro has recorded 43 goals in 206 appearances in all competitions. With that record, he helped the Blues win three trophies from different events, including the Premier League in the 2016/17 season.
Pedro himself is a graduate of Barcelona’s La Masia Academy. Together with the Catalan giants he also had become a mainstay, but the arrival of Neymar and Luis Suarez forced the player to leave Camp Nou in 2015.
Now, of course Pedro is ready to start his new career in Italy with AS Roma.
