Pele reluctant to call Messi as the World’s Best Player

Undeniably, Lionel Messi is one of the world’s best players in the past decade, where at least this has been proven by the Argentine National Team player by winning 5 Ballon d’Or trophies and carving a myriad of Achievements along with Barcelona. Some people even consider La Pulga to be one of the best player in history, but the Brazilian legend, Pele is reluctant to give that predicate to Messi.

Lionel Messi, 31, has been considered one of the world’s best players in the past decade. The Argentine National Team player has won 5 Ballon d’Or titles in the last 10 years, 4 of which were won in a row, in the period 2009 – 2012. The title was also inseparable from his success winning a number of prestigious titles at club level with Barcelona.

A total of 33 titles have been won by Messi with Barcelona, 4 of which are European Champions League titles. Not only that, the player nicknamed La Pulga also managed to break a number of extraordinary records, such as Barcelona’s all-time Top Scorer, Top Scorer of all time La Liga, and a number of other records that were no less great.

No wonder, many people consider him to be one of the best players in football history. But Pele, who also holds the title, disagrees with Lionel Messi’s figure. He is reluctant to call Messi better than Maradona, or another football legend.

“How can you compare someone who is good at heading a ball, kicking left and right foot with only kicking one leg, having one ability and not heading well?” said Pele to Folha de Sao Paulo, who made himself a comparison.

“How can you compare it? To be compared with Pele, it must be someone who is capable of kicking as well as his left and right legs, and is also good at scoring with his head. As far as I know, Maradona is one of the best players ever. If you ask me, ‘is he better than Messi?’ Yes, indeed, much better. [Franz] Beckenbauer, [Johan] Cruyff is also an extraordinary player,” told Pele to reporters.
