One of the Manchester United legends, Rio Ferdinand criticized the performance of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford when the Red Devils were humiliated by Sheffield United this morning.
As is known, Manchester United faced Sheffield United in the 20th week of the Premier League, this Thursday morning WIB (28/01). In the duel that took place at Old Trafford, surprisingly the Red Devils were defeated by a score of 1-2.
Sheffield United even scored the first goal when the game lasted 23 minutes. Then in the second half, the hosts had a chance to reply through Harry Maguire’s goal, unfortunately 10 minutes later Sheffield came back ahead thanks to the action of Oliver Burke.
The defeat was clearly very disappointing, apart from taking place at home, United also automatically lost three points, even though they were struggling to maintain the top of the standings.
After the match, Rio Ferdinand then sent criticism to the two Red Devils players who he thought were performing below standard performance. Both are Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who served on the front lines.
“From the early minutes, really, there wasn’t the push and the punches we could see from United,”
“I think for some time United, in terms of reaction, has been brilliant but tonight it looked crumbling. Rashford and Martial did not look, did not pursue anything, did not create anything,” said Ferdinand told BT Sports as quoted by Goal International.
Indeed, based on the statistics released by Sqawka, neither Anthony Martial nor Marcus Rashford were able to create opportunities throughout the match. Martial scored a goal, but the goal was ruled out by the referee.
On the other hand, the former Manchester United captain praised Sheffield United, who according to him had performed well throughout, despite their status as caretakers of the standings. Compliments were given directly by Ferdinand to manager Chris Wilder.
“Sheffield United credit, Chris Wilder managed them very well, but United did not pose a challenge. Bruno Fernandes, whom they have relied on so much in the last few weeks, months, did not do it today. Paul Pogba did too,” said Ferdinand.
