UEFA have appointed Croatia midfielder, Luka Modric as Europe’s best player this year, beating his former colleague who now plays for Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo. This UEFA decision was apparently not approved by the Portuguese player transfer agent, Jorge Mendez, where he thought Cristiano Ronaldo should be more worthy of winning the award.
As is known, Cristiano Ronaldo has indeed joined Juventus in the summer transfer window this year, but in the campaign last season he was still a Real Madrid player, and even led the Spanish capital club to win the European Champions League trophy for the third time in a row. Ronaldo’s contribution could not be underestimated, despite not scoring in the final round against Liverpool, who scored 15 goals throughout the competition.
No wonder, this 33-year-old player is considered as one of the strongest candidates for the UEFA winner. But Ronaldo was even less competitive with his former colleague, Luka Modric, who brought the Croatian National Team to the final of the 2018 World Cup. This decision was not approved by Ronaldo’s Transfer Agent, Jorge Mendez.
According to him, the client is more worthy of winning the award after seeing his contribution throughout the campaign last season. In fact, Jorge Mendez called UEFA embarrassing for not giving the award to Ronaldo.
“Football is played on the pitch and that’s where Ronaldo wins, Last season Ronaldo became a top scorer with 15 goals [in the Champions League] and led Real Madrid back to the Champions League title. This is ridiculous and embarrassing. “The winner need not be doubted, because Ronaldo is the best in his position,” said Mendes in an interview with Record.
Cristiano Ronaldo decided not to attend the awarding night event which took place in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday (30/8) yesterday.
