European Football Association or UEFA officially issued a decision related to the continuation of European Champions League and Europa League competition this season. Interestingly there is no change, the rest of the competition will continue to carry the format of the cage and away.
In fact, before the soccer competition was postponed due to the Corona Virus pandemic, there were a total of four of the last eight European Champions League last-16 matches that had been completed. Four teams have qualified for the last eight, while eight teams are still struggling in the second leg.
Meanwhile in the Europa League, there are a total of six second-leg matches that have not yet taken place, plus two other matches that will be determined in a single-leg format.
No other than the first leg meeting between Inter Milan against Getafe and AS Roma against Sevilla which was delayed.
Previously, it was heard that UEFA might hold the rest of the season in a neutral place to reduce the risk.
But, on the one hand they also have to be fair, considering there are many teams that have played away games. However, holding a cage-away format is too risky, but UEFA finally chose this risky option.
“The UEFA Executive Committee has decided that the rest of the last 16 second leg of the Champions League and Europa League will be played at home to the home team.”
“As reported in June, the duel Inter vs Getafe and Sevilla vs Roma, whose first leg was postponed, will be played in one leg in Germany.” Thus the official statement of UEFA.
The remaining four matches of the second leg of the last 16 round are planned to be completed on 7 to 8 August 2020. Meanwhile, here are the rest of the second leg match of the last 16 of the European Champions League this season.
The rest of the last 16 second leg duel:
Juventus vs Lyon (Aggregate 0-1)
Manchester City vs Real Madrid (Aggregate 2-1)
Bayern v Chelsea (3-0 on aggregate)
Barcelona vs Napoli (Aggregate 1-1)
While the other four matches have been completed, which then produced four contestants who qualified for the quarter-finals, among them were Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, and PSG.
