Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk looks like a frightening figure when guarding his team’s defense on the field. However, when he was off the pitch, the Dutch player turned into a figure who was very attentive to the people around him.
As is known, the former Southampton player is indeed known as one of the best defenders in the world today. He is the main focus of Liverpool’s defense in recent seasons.
In other words, Van Dijk played a major role in helping the Marseyside Team win a number of championship trophies, including the European Champions League and English Premier League trophies.
There have been many strikers who have acknowledged Van Dijk’s toughness, such as Borussia Dortmund’s mainstay bomber Erling Braut Haaland. Then most recently there was Troy Deeney.
The Watford striker has faced the 29-year-old defender on several occasions in the Premier League. Deeney also admitted that Van Dijk is a very solid defender, like a wall that is difficult to break down by opposing attackers.
Well, it turns out that Troy Deeney and Van Dijk have a good relationship as a player and as a person. Even though he is fierce on the pitch, Van Dijk turns out to be a very attentive person off the pitch.
“He’s very difficult to play against. He’s like two different people, on and off the pitch, ”
“I exchanged messages with him several times and spoke with him privately. When Deulofeu was injured, he texted me to send him a message. It shows what he is about,” he explained on talkSPORTS.
Deeney admitted that actually Van Dijk was not happy when other people spit out his good nature like this.
“He probably doesn’t want that to happen. I have killed him a little. He’s such a person, “he said.
With such an attitude, Van Dijk is called a defender who is ideal for any team.
“But when he’s on the pitch he just wants to win. It’s really the best type of person when they are different on and off the pitch, “said Deeney.
Unfortunately, the Dutch national team player is currently experiencing an ACL injury and will have to be sidelined for the next few months.
