Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal looks back on his days, when he was manager of Manchester United. The tactician admitted that he had a list of transfer targets he wanted the club to recruit at that time.
Van Gaal had indeed handled Manchester United, but his career there is considered a failure, because he only lasted 2 seasons before being fired by the club.
But the failure of Manchester United was not entirely because of Van Gaal. Moreover, given the fact that the club is not fulfilling the manager’s wishes, regarding the transfer target.
Even the former Barcelona coach revealed who the players were on his wishlist at Manchester United first. It was surprising because Van Gaal wanted to pair Robert Lewandowski, Gonzalo Higuain and Neymar up front.
“I wanted Robert Lewandowski, but when it proved difficult to sign, I tried to sign Gonzalo Higuain,”
“Before arriving, I spoke with the management about Neymar. If you are part of United you have to think broadly. He is also attractive for the club in terms of uniform sales, and I want a fast winger,” Van Gaal told FourFourTwo.
Not only that, there are also two other winger names, they are Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez.
“For that reason, I also tried to recruit Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez,” he continued.
In the middle sector, Van Gaal had time to yearn for Thomas Muller, N’Golo Kante to James Milner.
“Thomas Muller is also on my list, and in the midfield position I want N’Golo Kante. I even tried to sign James Milner, who is quite old, but still very versatile and has good leadership skills.” He said.
Two world-class defenders, including Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels, are also included in the aim of the tactician.
“For defense, I want Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels, because our defense is not very strong in terms of building attacks from behind.” He said.
Those are the 10 total transfer targets for Van Gaal when he was working with Manchester United. We can imagine how successful the Red Devils would be, if they able to sign those 10 players earlier.
