Winning the match, Stefano Pioli continued to criticize AC Milan’s performance

AC Milan’s tactician, Stefano Pioli, did not hesitate to criticize the performance of his players in the match against Torino in the Coppa Italia. Although in the end Donnarumma et al managed to win and qualify, Pioli considered his team’s performance far from satisfactory.

For information, AC Milan did face Torino in the Coppa Italia match, Wednesday (13/1/2021) this morning. The match which took place at the San Siro ended in an equal position 0-0.

The match was then continued with an extra time round to find the winner. Unfortunately, at 2×15 minutes of extra rounds, not a single goal was scored so this match was closed with a shootout.

Well, it was in that round that AC Milan won. The shootout ended with a score of 5-4 for AC Milan. That way, the Rossoneri will automatically be entitled to a ticket to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Indeed, this victory is quite important for Milan, but on the one hand they have to be grateful because this match is not an Italian Serie A match. The reason is, a draw could make the Rossoneri lose their position at the top of the standings.

When speaking after the match, coach Stefano Pioli admitted that the performance of his landing team was far below standard.

“I can only feel satisfied with his performance, because this is the fourth game in nine days, but we are not lacking in enthusiasm or intensity,”

“It’s a shame we didn’t win the game within 90 minutes, but we still showed quality, because it was not easy to score five goals from five penalties,” Pioli said after the match to Milan TV.

However, Pioli still appreciates the confidence of the Milan players in this match. Without confidence, the former Lazio coach is not sure Milan will win.

“We believe in our quality. Always think positively during the match and stay concentrated. It paid off, because this match was difficult and complicated, so you need trust like that,” he concluded.

After this, AC Milan will again fight on the Serie A stage against Cagliari on 19 January.
